Sant Sadurní d'Anoia - Lavern Subirats
Around the township of Subirats, the vineyard capital
This short stage connects Sant Sadurní d'Anoia with the Lavern-Subirats train station. The route is marked by the passage through numerous streams and brooks that feed the river Anoia, under the imposing figure of the castle of Subirats, a 10th century construction that, perched on the Ordal mountain range, dominates the northern part of the Alt Penedès. In fact, the stage begins a gradual transition from the valleys of the Anoia to the less rugged terrain of the Penedès plain.
The route starts at Sant Sadurní d'Anoia train station, and is common for walkers and gravel bikes, until passing the village of Can Batista, where the gravel route continues along the road for a few hundred metres to avoid the Lavernó stream.
From the station, the route crosses the historic centre of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, leaving the town centre and following the C-243a road towards Vilafranca del Penedès for a few hundred metres. At the Pere Ventura winery, turn left to continue along the dirt road that leads to Can Batista, a small village in the municipality of Subirats. After passing Can Batista, continue along a paved road and finally leave it by turning left. The route for walkers and mountain bikes descends along a vineyard path, crosses the Lavernó stream and climbs up to the Ca l'Artigues farmhouse.
After crossing the BV-2429 road, you reach the church of Sant Pere de Lavern. Here you can download the routes corresponding to the eastern variant to La Granada, or to Vilafranca via the western variant. If you follow the track, you will reach the Lavern - Subirats train station, where you will find the Subirats tourist office and a bicycle rental service.
Camí de Can Batista.
Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Lavern - Subirats train stations, and open-air public car parks at the Ateneu, Centre and Pont Romà (Sant Sadurní d'Anoia).
You mus be careful when turning left on the C-243a road at the Pere Ventura winery to continue along the Can Batista dirt road, and also when crossing the BV-2429 road, to reach the church of Sant Pere de Lavern. The Lavernó stream after passing Can Batista can be muddy if it has rained a lot. Once past this stream, the climb up to Ca l'Artigues is very steep, but it is a short stretch and the path is in good condition. The alternative is to continue the gravel route until you reach the BV-2429 road and turn left to return to the original route.
