Vilafranca del Penedès - Els Monjos

The route of this stage leads to the nearby town of Santa Margarida i els Monjos. Although everything seems to indicate that the original Via Augusta followed the current N-340 road, an alternative rural route with less traffic, which skirts the westernmost part of the Olèrdola Park, is proposed. From Vilafranca train station, the route heads towards the cycle path that leads to Moja (Olèrdola).

Already in Moja, the route passes through the church square, right next to the tower of Moja (10th century) and the Romanesque chapel of Sant Cugat de Moja. Nearby are some unique buildings, such as the Barber house, in Art Nouveau style, and the Batlle house, in Noucentista style. Shortly after leaving Moja along the Penyafel lane, you come to the farmhouse of the same name, a former castle that was converted into a farmhouse in the 17th century, and right next to it is the chapel of Santa Maria de Penyafel (11th century). At this point, the gravel route continues along the Penyafel lane to Santa Margarida i els Monjos. Between the farmhouse and the chapel begins a trail with quite technical sections due to the presence of large stone slabs, roots and some small steps. Here mountain bikers will have to pay attention.

Once inside the Olèrdola Park, the route follows tracks through pine woods bordering the vineyards until it descends again towards Santa Margarida i els Monjos, where it enters along the cemetery path. The route ends at the Santa Margarida i els Monjos train station. If you wish to continue on to the next stage, just past the cemetery, turn left at the Uniland cement factory.
